Leiselheimer Chardonnay Schwarze Erde

Chardonnay from Baden that shows what this grape variety is capable of when it meets the right soil: The Schwarze Erde site in Leiselheim is not named for nothing — the dark, mineral-rich soil gives the wine a substance that you can feel immediately in the glass.

Weingut Landerer farms organically and has made a name for itself in the Ortenau region for precise, characterful white wines. The Chardonnay is bottled unfiltered — this preserves the liveliness and natural expression of the fruit. A subtle tonneau aging rounds off the texture without pushing the wine in a heavy, oak-dominated direction.

On the nose, the wine opens with linden blossom and acacia blossom, followed by juicy, precise fruit. On the palate, a powerful acidity carries the wine through — it never feels heavy, but shows both creaminess and piquancy at the same time. The finish is long and lively.

Good with pan-fried monkfish with caper butter, oven-roasted chicken with tarragon, or mature Comté. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C.

Landerer

Landerer Winery – this is Burgundy that tastes of volcanic soil. Literally. On the Kaiserstuhl, where ancient volcanic rock forms the soil, the Landerer family has cultivated their vines for generations. The Kirchberg, Eichberg, and Henkenberg vineyards give the wines something that can't be forced – it has to be allowed to happen. Johannes Landerer understood this early on. At 17, he planted his first vineyard, experimented in the barren rock, and developed his own style. In 2016, after the sudden death of his father, Thomas, he took over the winery – a heavy burden he bears with respect and passion. What drives him: that you can truly taste in the glass where the wine comes from. Vintage, soil, microclimate – everything should be perceptible. To achieve this, his team works in harmony with nature, consciously reduces yields, and gives the grapes time to ripen. Wine that tells a story. People who listen.
