Kostheimer Weiß Erd Riesling GG dry
Kostheimer Weiß Erd is a Riesling that denies its origin – in the best sense: calcareous marl soil instead of slate, soft texture instead of nervous acidity, a fullness on the palate that is more reminiscent of Pinot Blanc than of classic Rheingau Riesling.
Franz Künstler is one of the most reliable names in the Rheingau. The winery in Hochheim meticulously brings out the unique characteristics of each individual vineyard site – the Weiß Erd with its calcareous marl provides the ideal setting: plenty of substance, pronounced minerality, but without the harsh edges of the large slate vineyards.
In the glass, the wine displays ripe quince, white peach, and a hint of roasted almond . The body is full-bodied, the acidity integrated and creamy, the finish long with a subtle, chalky spice. A GG that doesn't seek provocation, but rather depth.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with veal medallions in cream sauce, lobster, scallops, or strong mountain cheese. Drinking window still open – drink now or cellar until 2027.
