Pinot Gris "Oberbergener Bassgeige" QbA dry

A Grauburgunder with drive and substance: flint and yellow fruits on the nose, plenty of spice on the palate, carried by lively acidity. The wine fills the mouth without feeling heavy.

The grapes grow in the Oberbergener Bassgeige vineyard at the Kaiserstuhl in Baden, one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany. The Kaiserstuhl is of volcanic origin. Such soils often give Grauburgunder structure and a stony note, which resonates here in the flint scent. The Franz Keller winery is based in Oberbergen and bottles the wine as a dry Qualitätswein b. A.

In the glass, apple and melon are added, accompanied by powerful spice. Despite the concentration, the acidity remains present and keeps the wine fresh. The spice lingers in the finish.

Recommendation: Serve it at 10–12 °C with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, fried zander, roast veal, or aged mountain cheese. It also pairs well with an evening with friends where the food is the focus.
