A Pinot Noir from one of the most renowned sites in the Kaiserstuhl — the Oberbergener Bassgeige has been providing the basis for red wines with substance and depth for decades.

Franz Keller is one of the pioneers of German Pinot Noir. His winery in the Black Forest foothills cultivates the Bassgeige vineyard on the volcanic weathered soil of the Kaiserstuhl – ideal for Pinot Noir with structure and aging potential. Aging takes place in large wooden barrels: no over-shaping with new oak, instead a focus on the fruit of the vineyard site.

In the glass, ripe blackberry and cherry aromas are revealed, underpinned by subtle spice and a hint of dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, with fine, well-integrated tannins and lively, smooth acidity—the finish is long and structured. The 92 points awarded to the wine industry's Red Wine of the Year 2021, ranking second, underscore its exceptional quality.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with venison leg, duck breast with red cabbage, warm mushroom dishes, or mature Comté cheese. For those who can wait: best enjoyed by 2027.
