Oberberg Bassgeige Spätburgunder

Brick-red color, classic cherry fruit and a mineral finish — Bassgeige is Franz Keller's entry into the Pinot Noir world of the Kaiserstuhl, without compromising on style.

The Franz Keller winery is one of the most influential names in the Kaiserstuhl region. The family, now in its second generation under Fritz Keller, has for decades stood for precise, Burgundian-style Pinot Noir from the volcanic soils of Oberbergen — including the renowned Bassgeige vineyard, which gives the wine its name.

In the glass, it shines a clear brick red. On the nose, it reveals ripe sour cherry, a subtle hint of iron—typical of the mineral-rich soils of the vineyard—and a spicy cedar note in the background. This interplay continues on the palate: fruit and spice intertwine, supported by a fresh, vibrant acidity that gives the wine a light, agile feel. The minerality ensures a lingering, dry finish of pleasant medium length.

Drinking window: now until 2027. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs well with veal medallions with mushroom jus, saddle of venison or a mature Époisses.
