Enselberg Spätburgunder 1G

A Pinot Noir that doesn't hide its origin: volcanic subsoil, loess layer, west-facing slope with a view of the Rhine plain — you can taste it.

Franz Keller is one of the most influential names in the Kaiserstuhl region. The Enselberg vineyard is a well-ventilated west-facing slope situated on alternating dark and light volcanic rock, covered by a fine layer of loess. The two vineyards were planted exclusively with Burgundian Pinot Noir clones in 1999 and 2003 – not a random choice, but a deliberate stylistic decision in favor of finesse over power.

The nose reveals aromas of wild berries, mocha, and licorice —a combination that suggests depth without being heavy. On the palate, a fresh acidity supports the wine, the tannins are fine and firm, and the finish is long and spicy.

Franz Keller Winery – Baden wine culture since 1892. Today run by Fritz Keller, who, in addition to his winemaking, is also a hotelier and president of SC Freiburg. Just ten kilometers from the French border, in Oberbergen, lies one of Germany's largest and most internationally acclaimed wineries. 35 hectares of vineyards, spread across eight sites. Among the best are the Oberbergener Bassgeige and the Pulverbuck. Loess, volcanic rock, and weathered basalt – here, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc primarily thrive. 200,000 bottles full of character are produced annually. And for those who wish to extend their stay: the Hotel "Schwarzer Adler" and the Restaurant "Kellerwirtschaft" extend a warm welcome. Baden, as he lives.
