Just ten kilometers from the French border, in Oberbergen, lies one of Germany's largest and most internationally acclaimed wineries. 35 hectares of vineyards, spread across eight sites. Among the best are the Oberbergener Bassgeige and the Pulverbuck. Loess, volcanic rock, and weathered basalt – here, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc primarily thrive. 200,000 bottles full of character are produced annually. Kaiserstuhl Burgundy with volcanic rock depth

The Franz Keller winery is located in Oberbergen am Kaiserstuhl, less than ten kilometers from the French border – and this proximity is no coincidence. The wines are crafted in the Burgundian style: precise, site-specific, with the ambition to reflect the terroir rather than overpower it. Family-owned since 1892, the winery is now run by Fritz Keller, who manages it with the same dedication he applies to everything else he undertakes.

35 hectares are spread across eight vineyard sites, including the Oberbergener Bassgeige and the Pulverbuck. The soil tells the story of the Kaiserstuhl region: loess, weathered basalt, volcanic rock – a subsoil that imparts structure and a mineral tension to the wines, which can be tasted in the glass. Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc are the main varieties; both benefit from the region's warmth and the cool nights, which ensure freshness and length.

Around 200,000 bottles are produced here annually – a considerable quantity for a winery of this quality level, demonstrating that craftsmanship and scaling up production need not be mutually exclusive.
