Eichberg Spätburgunder GG

The Eichberg is one of the great Pinot sites in the Kaiserstuhl — and Franz Keller's interpretation of it shows why that is. Not a loud wine, but one with depth and a long finish.

The Franz Keller winery is one of the reference addresses for Pinot Noir in Germany. In Oberbergen in the Kaiserstuhl, the family cultivates steep slopes on volcanic weathered soil — this gives the wines their characteristic mineral tension. The Eichberg holds the status of Grosses Gewächs, the highest quality level of the VDP.

On the nose, cold smoke, myrtle, and a hint of suede — before dried cherry and dark chocolate follow. On the palate, a firm body with real power, yet velvety, finely integrated tannins. The spice remains present from the first sip to the long finish, where teak, roasted notes, and milk chocolate accompany the fruit. Complex, balanced, with much elegance in the finale.

VDP Member Estate

Franz Keller Winery – Baden wine culture since 1892. Today run by Fritz Keller, who, in addition to his winemaking, is also a hotelier and president of SC Freiburg. Just ten kilometers from the French border, in Oberbergen, lies one of Germany's largest and most internationally acclaimed wineries. 35 hectares of vineyards, spread across eight sites. Among the best are the Oberbergener Bassgeige and the Pulverbuck. Loess, volcanic rock, and weathered basalt – here, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc primarily thrive. 200,000 bottles full of character are produced annually. And for those who wish to extend their stay: the Hotel "Schwarzer Adler" and the Restaurant "Kellerwirtschaft" extend a warm welcome. Baden, as he lives.
