Franz Keller Bassgeige Spätburgunder

Franz Keller Bassgeige Spätburgunder
A Spätburgunder from one of the most renowned sites in the Kaiserstuhl — the Oberbergener Bassgeige has provided the foundation for red wines with substance and depth for decades.
Franz Keller is one of the pioneers of German Pinot Noir. The winery in the Black Forest foothills manages the Bassgeige site on the volcanic weathered soil of the Kaiserstuhl — ideal for Spätburgunder with structure and aging potential. Aged in large wooden barrels: no overpowering by new oak, instead a focus on the fruit of the site.
In the glass, ripe blackberry and cherry appear, underscored by a subtle spice and a hint of dried herbs. Medium to full body, fine, well-integrated tannins, lively acidity without edges — the finish is long and structured. The 92 points Red Wine of the Year 2nd place from Weinwirtschaft 2021 underscores its level.
Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with venison leg, duck breast with red cabbage, warm mushroom dishes, or mature Comté.

Franz Keller Winery – Baden wine culture since 1892. Today run by Fritz Keller, who, in addition to his winemaking, is also a hotelier and president of SC Freiburg. Just ten kilometers from the French border, in Oberbergen, lies one of Germany's largest and most internationally acclaimed wineries. 35 hectares of vineyards, spread across eight sites. Among the best are the Oberbergener Bassgeige and the Pulverbuck. Loess, volcanic rock, and weathered basalt – here, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc primarily thrive. 200,000 bottles full of character are produced annually. And for those who wish to extend their stay: the Hotel "Schwarzer Adler" and the Restaurant "Kellerwirtschaft" extend a warm welcome. Baden, as he lives.
