Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask Finish Single Malt Whiskey
An approachable Speyside single malt that derives its character from the interplay of two cask types: first American oak, then a nine-month finish in used Chardonnay wine casks.
Glen Moray is located in Elgin, in the heart of Speyside, and is one of the oldest distilleries in the region – in operation since 1897. The distillery is known for experimenting with unusual cask finishes and has thus built a loyal following among both newcomers and cask enthusiasts.
The influence of the Chardonnay barrel is clearly evident in the glass: ripe mango and pineapple mingle with vanilla and light caramel from the American oak. There's also a subtle hint of white peach – an influence typically imparted by white wine barrels. The finish is mild and slightly sweet, without any harshness.
Neat at room temperature or with a single ice cube – both work well. For cocktail enthusiasts: a Whisky Sour with fresh lemon juice further accentuates the fruitiness. An uncomplicated introduction to the world of Speyside, and also a great gift for wine lovers who become curious about whisky.
