Glen Moray Cabernet Cask Finish Single Malt Whiskey

Glen Moray Cabernet Cask Finish Single Malt Whiskey
A Speyside single malt that combines classic distillery tradition with an unusual cask finish: After initial maturation in American oak casks, this Glen Moray spends another 14 months in former Cabernet Sauvignon casks.
Glen Moray is one of the oldest distilleries in Speyside – the distillery in Elgin has been producing whisky since 1897 and is considered a hidden gem among connoisseurs who appreciate approachable, fruit-forward styles. The use of wine cask finishes here is not a marketing gimmick, but a consistent extension of the whisky's already smooth character.
The effect of 14 months in a red wine barrel is evident in the glass: the vanilla and caramel from the bourbon aging remain as a base, joined by aromas of dark chocolate, red berries, and black pepper. The texture is creamy, the finish medium-long with a slightly tannic, dry aftertaste – a direct reminder of the wine barrel.
This whisky is best enjoyed neat at room temperature; a single ice cube further enhances the fruity notes. If you like, you can also mix it into a Whisky Sour – the depth of its red wine cask influence complements the cocktail well.

Glen Moray – Speyside as it should be: approachable, fruity, and with over 120 years of distilling history. Located in Elgin, the distillery is one of the few places where whisky is still truly made by hand. Visitors might even be given a personal tour of the halls – that speaks volumes about the spirit that prevails here. In the glass, Glen Moray is light, smooth, and fruity. American oak casks impart vanilla and ripe fruit notes, while exciting cask finishes add variety. Whether you're looking for your first single malt or something more unusual from a cask, you'll find it here.
