The undisputed No. 1 in its homeland, Ferreira is still one of the largest port wine exporters today. More than that, however, is the reputation of the house of Ferreira as a guarantor for top quality.
This is primarily due to the more than 300 hectares of its own vineyards, which officially count among the gems of the growing region.
On the slopes that drop steeply in terraces to the Douro Valley, the grapes of the traditional Portuguese varieties receive plenty of sun in the hot, dry summer months and thus develop the power, fullness, and maturity that define the unique character of the port wine.

Tawny Port matures oxidatively in the barrel, developing aromas of dried fruits, nuts, and a hint of caramel. The Ferreira Tawny is full-bodied, with soft sweetness and a long, warm finish — typical of the hot, dry climate of the Douro Valley.
What does the Ferreira Tawny Port pair best with?
It is a classic companion to strong cheeses like Roquefort, Manchego, or Pecorino. It also cuts a fine figure with desserts — and as an aperitif, served slightly chilled, it works surprisingly well.
At what temperature should I serve the Tawny Port?
Best at 16–18 °C — i.e., slightly below room temperature. In summer, it can also be put in the refrigerator briefly so that it seems fresher as an aperitif.
How long does the Tawny Port last after opening?
Thanks to the high alcohol content of 20% ABV, an opened bottle keeps well sealed in the refrigerator for several weeks — significantly longer than a normal still wine.
Is the Ferreira Tawny Port very sweet?
