Cielo 1908 Appasionante Veneto

A full-bodied red wine from the Veneto region, which gets its opulent character from the Appassimento technique – dried grapes before fermentation: concentrated fruit, soft mouthfeel, pleasantly long finish.

Cielo e Terra is a typical Veneto winery with a long history dating back to 1908. Located in the heart of the Po Valley and on the hills of Veneto, the estate cultivates large vineyards with a clear focus on approachable, easy-drinking wines that reflect the character of the region.

In the glass, it displays a deep garnet red. The nose opens with ripe cherries, red berries, and a hint of blackberry – underpinned by light spice notes typical of aged red wines. On the palate, it is soft and round, with silky tannins and a fruity-spicy finish without any harsh edges.

How does the Appasionante taste – is it heavy and sweetish?

It is dry, but due to the appassimento technique – i.e., partially dried grapes before fermentation – significantly more full-bodied than a classic Veneto red wine. In the glass, ripe cherry, red berries, a hint of blackberry, and light spice notes. The tannins are soft, the finish fruity-spicy without heaviness.

What does the wine go best with?

Classically with pasta al ragù or grilled bratwurst. It also cuts a good figure with an antipasti board with aged Pecorino. The round character tolerates rustic, hearty dishes better than fine cuisine.

At what temperature do I serve it?

16–18 °C – so slightly chilled below room temperature. Too warm, it loses freshness and the fruit appears flat. Shortly before serving, 20–30 minutes in the cool cellar or briefly in the refrigerator is enough.

Is this an everyday wine or rather something for special occasions?

Clearly an everyday wine – uncomplicated, accessible, without rough edges. Good for a relaxed evening during the week or as a companion to a rustic table with friends.

How long does the bottle last after opening?

Due to the higher alcohol content (14% vol.) and the concentrated fruit, it lasts 2–3 days opened and well-sealed in the refrigerator. After that, the aroma profile noticeably flattens.

Cielo e Terra has 2 origins in Veneto: the Cielo family and the winemakers of Cantine Colli Berici. The story of Cielo e Terra began in 1908 when the Cielo family bought land in Vicenza, near the Castelli di Romeo e Giulietta, which also included a small vineyard, Casa Defrà. In 1960, the winery was founded in its current form as a cooperative and an Italy-wide distribution network was established.

Today, Cielo e Terra exports to over 60 countries, consists of over 1000 winemakers with 3700 hectares of cultivated land, and is a leader in the field of sustainability.
