Chardonnay Ried Zapfersberg

Chardonnay Ried Zapfersberg
A Chardonnay from the single vineyard Ried Zapfersberg – vinified in the Burgundian style, with ripe fruit and a texture rarely found in this price range.
The Hugl/Wimmer winery operates in the Austrian wine region, focusing on single-vineyard white wines. The Zapfersberg vineyard yields Chardonnay with the ripeness and density that are essential for serious aging – whether in oak barrels or on the lees.
In the glass, the wine displays yellow peach and pear fruit, along with a hint of hazelnut and creamy brioche notes. The acidity is present but integrated – no harshness, but rather a soft, rounded mouthfeel with a long, slightly nutty finish.
Serving suggestion: Served at 10–12 °C, it pairs well with veal strips in cream sauce, pan-fried salmon fillet with caper butter, or a mature mountain cheese. It also makes a solid impression as a standalone accompaniment to a late afternoon with good company.

Hugl/Wimmer
The Hugl winery is one of Austria's young, up-and-coming businesses, which Martin Hugl and his wife Sylvia took over from his father a few years ago. Nestled in the idyllic wine region near the Czech border, the winery is located in the small town of Poysdorf, in the heart of the picturesque Weinviertel. Since 2021, Hugl wines have been entitled to bear the "Sustainable Austria" quality seal. From vineyard work to winemaking and bottling, our entire operation underwent a thorough sustainability review. The certification process assessed the economical use of water, energy, and chemical fertilizers, the efficient use of machinery, fair working conditions, and sustainable business practices.
