Catena Zapata Adrianna Malbec Fortuna Terrae

Catena Zapata Adrianna Malbec Fortuna Terrae
The Adrianna Fortuna Terrae comes from one of the most remarkable high-altitude sites in Argentina – and you can taste it. Cool nights, intense sunlight, and deep clay soils at 1,300 meters shape a Malbec that differs from everything known from the lowlands.
The Fortuna Terrae – "Fortune of the Soil" – is a parcel of only 5 hectares in the Adrianna vineyard in Mendoza's Gualtallary zone. Catena Zapata manages this block with special attention to soil health: native grasses, insects, birds, and mountain foxes are part of the living ecosystem around the vines. This biodiversity is no coincidence, but a program.
In the glass, the wine shows what altitude does to Malbec: dark blackberry and plum meet violets and a subtle hint of lavender. The acidity is present and fresh, the tannins fine-grained and well-integrated. The finish is long, spicy, with a mineral note reminiscent of the clay soil.
- Food pairing: Rack of lamb with herb crust, grilled beef fillet, ripe Manchego
- Temperature: 16–18 °C

Catena Zapata represents a story deeply rooted in the Andes. Nicolás Catena Zapata was one of the first to bring Argentinian Malbec to the world stage – not with fanfare, but with conviction and patience. The vineyards are located in Mendoza, some at altitudes of over 1,500 meters. There, where the air is thin and the sun intense, grapes ripen slowly, developing a depth that you immediately perceive in the glass: dark berries, a hint of violet, velvety warmth – and always that elegant freshness that high-altitude vineyards bring. Today, his daughter Laura runs the winery with scientific ambition and genuine passion. She researches which ancient grape varieties and soils of Argentina still lie dormant – and bottles the results. You can taste it: wines with character, attitude, and a story worth telling.
