Catena Malbec

Anyone who wants to understand why Malbec from Mendoza is causing a stir worldwide will find a good starting point here. Catena Zapata has made the grape variety socially acceptable in the high altitudes of the Andes – this wine is the result of that.

Nicolás Catena Zapata began planting Malbec vines at over 1,000 meters altitude in the 1980s – against the zeitgeist of the time. The cooler temperatures and the intense Andean sun produce grapes with concentrated fruit and at the same time a fresh acid structure. Today, the winery is considered a reference point for Argentine Malbec.

In the glass, dark ruby red appears. On the nose, blackberry and black cherry, plus nuances of coffee, tobacco, and black pepper. On the palate, juicy fruit, a silky texture, and fine-grained tannins that leave no sharpness – the finish is long and spicy.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
Pairs well with grilled beef fillet, leg of lamb with rosemary, or a strong hard cheese like Manchego. Also an uncomplicated companion for the evening without food.
