Catena Birth of Cabernet
The Birth of Cabernet from Catena Zapata is a red wine that shows why Mendoza is one of the most important Cabernet vineyards in the world – concentrated, structured and with real aging potential.
Catena Zapata is considered a pioneer of Argentinian quality winemaking. The family-run winery cultivates vines at high altitudes in the Andes – some at over 1,000 meters – and combines European winemaking traditions with the unique terroir of Mendoza. The 2021 vintage offered ideal conditions for red grape varieties: uniform ripening, moderate sugar content, and balanced acidity.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and a hint of cedar, underpinned by subtle notes of dark chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, it features dense but well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish with a touch of graphite.
Serving suggestion: Serve at 17–18 °C. Pairs well with beef fillet, aged Manchego cheese, or braised lamb rump. Drinking window 2025–2032 – now with some decanting time, or at its peak from 2026 onwards.
