Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino

This Malbec shows Argentina's grape variety in one of its densest forms. Catena Zapata marries two top vineyards from the Región del Nuevo Cuyo here: the grapes from the Angelica vineyard bring juicy fullness and dark fruit, while the higher-altitude Nicasia plots contribute mineral depth and structure. This combination creates a Malbec with unusual complexity for the variety.

The wine matures for 18 months in new French barriques – an aging process that gives the Malbec refined tannins and roasted notes without masking the fruit. The nose reveals blackberry, cassis, and a hint of violet, underpinned by vanilla and a fine smoky note from the wood. Dense and velvety on the palate, with ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, spicy finish reminiscent of black pepper.

Best served at 16 to 18 °C, ideally decanted an hour beforehand. The wine pairs with Argentine asado, braised beef, or aged hard cheese – a Malbec for a quiet evening for two or as the highlight of a menu with red meat.
