Riesling Ried Heiligenstein Alte Reben 1ÖTW
The Heiligenstein near Langenlois is considered one of Austria's best Riesling sites — volcanic primary rock weathering soil made of cement stone (Zobing sandstone), which gives the wine a mineral depth that is hardly to be found in the New World. Willi Bründlmayer has been farming his plots here for decades; the "Alte Reben" (old vines) selection comes from vines that have been rooted for well over thirty years.
In the glass, the wine shows the classic Heiligenstein signature: citrus peel, white peach, and an unmistakable hint of light stone spice and herbs. The acidity is taut but without sharpness — embedded in a dense, oily-textural substance, as only old vines can provide. The finish pulls long, salty-mineral.
2026–2035, gladly also longer. Decanting recommended. Serving temperature 10–12 °C.
- Veal sweetbreads with caper butter
- grilled turbot or zander on fennel
- mature mountain cheese from the Bregenzerwald
