Bickel-Stumpf Silvaner

Silvaner from Franconia rarely polarizes — it simply convinces. This one from Bickel-Stumpf shows why the grape variety has found its true home in the region.

The Bickel-Stumpf winery is located in Thüngersheim on the Main, in the middle of the Franconian shell limestone. The family works the vine rows in small plots, with a focus on hand-picking and careful vinification. For Silvaner, this means: no cosmetics, just let the grape variety and soil speak.

On the nose, it is clear and cool — apple, light flowers, a hint of herbs. On the palate, then, the typical Franconian imprint: finely juicy pome fruit, lively freshness, mineral pressure in the middle part. The body is firm, has power and backbone without appearing clumsy. A light extract sweetness keeps the balance. The finish is long, with minerality and a delicately sweet fruit echo in the aftertaste.

Drinking recommendation: Well chilled at 10–12 °C. Goes well with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, fried zander on lentils, or a plate of Obatzda with fresh bread. It also cuts a fine figure as a companion to Asian vegetable dishes.

VDP Member Estate

Bickel-Stumpf – a small, exquisite family winery from Franconia. Two special vineyard sites, two distinct characters: the Mönchshof in Frickenhausen, situated on barren limestone by the river; and the Rothlauf on the Thüngersheim Johannisberg, on red sandstone. The result? Mönchshof wines: full-bodied, profound, with Burgundian elegance. Rothlauf wines: delicate, straightforward, and memorable. A member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), cultivated with respect for nature. Not a mass-produced product, but craftsmanship you can taste.
