A Silvaner that shows what the grape variety can achieve when location and craftsmanship come together: substantial, spicy, with a depth that one often does not expect from Silvaner.
The Bickel-Stumpf winery from Thüngersheim am Main is one of the most reliable wineries in Franconia. Their Kapellenberg vineyard bears the VDP.Erste Lage (Premier Cru) designation—a classification in Franconia awarded only to single vineyard sites that demonstrably produce above-average quality. The grapes are harvested by hand in stages, meaning that only ripe grapes go into the barrel.
Aged in 500-liter barrels , the wine displays slightly smoky notes on the nose, a subtle hint of oak, and pronounced spice—not a fruit bomb, but a wine with substance. On the palate, restrained yellow fruit flavors emerge: mirabelle plum, perhaps a touch of quince. The acidity is well-integrated, and the finish is long and mineral.
Serving temperature: 12–14 °C . Pairs well with roast veal with herb sauce, asparagus dishes with hollandaise sauce, or a mature mountain cheese. Best enjoyed by 2029.
