Silvaner "Buntsandstein" Kabinett dry

A Silvaner that shows what Franconian Bunter sandstone can do: mineral, dense and surprisingly expressive for a Kabinett.

Bickel-Stumpf from Thüngersheim am Main is one of the most reliable producers of Franconian Silvaner. The winery consistently brings out the typical soil characteristics of the region—shell limestone, Keuper soils, and Bunter sandstone—in its vineyard sites. The Bunter sandstone, in particular, is known for wines with pronounced minerality and structuring acidity rather than overt fruitiness.

The nose is initially cool and restrained: a hint of herbal spice, stone, and an undertone of ripe pear. On the palate, the wine unfolds with considerably more power than the Kabinett classification would suggest—dense extract, fruit that seems broader and deeper than the nose indicates, and firmly integrated acidity without any harsh edges. The finish is long and characterized by a pronounced minerality.

Bickel-Stumpf

Bickel-Stumpf – a small, exquisite family winery from Franconia. Two special vineyard sites, two distinct characters: the Mönchshof in Frickenhausen, situated on barren limestone by the river; and the Rothlauf on the Thüngersheim Johannisberg, on red sandstone. The result? Mönchshof wines: full-bodied, profound, with Burgundian elegance. Rothlauf wines: delicate, straightforward, and memorable. A member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), cultivated with respect for nature. Not a mass-produced product, but craftsmanship you can taste.
