Silvaner "Buntsandstein" Kabinett dry

A Silvaner that shows what Franconian variegated sandstone can do: mineral, dense, and surprisingly expressive for a Kabinett.

Bickel-Stumpf from Thüngersheim on the Main is one of the most reliable names for Franconian Silvaner. The winery consistently brings out the typical soil characteristics of the region — shell limestone, Keuper soils, variegated sandstone — in its range of vineyard sites. The "Buntsandstein" (variegated sandstone) stands for wines with striking minerality and structuring acidity instead of superficial fruitiness.

On the nose, it is initially cool and reserved: a hint of herbal spice, stone, and an undertone of ripe pear. In the mouth, the wine unfolds much more powerfully than the Kabinett classification would suggest — dense extract, fruit that seems broader and deeper than the nose suggests, plus firmly integrated acidity without sharp edges. The finish is long and characterized by a striking minerality.
