Bickel-Stumpf
Bickel-Stumpf –
Franconian craftsmanship from Mönchshof and Rothlauf
Bickel-Stumpf is a small family winery from Franconia that sources its wines from two distinctly different vineyard sites – and that's precisely what makes the difference. The Mönchshof vineyard in Frickenhausen lies on barren limestone directly on the river: The wines from here are full-bodied, profound, with an elegance more reminiscent of Burgundy than what is commonly understood as Franconian wine.
The Rothlauf vineyard on the Thüngersheim Johannisberg grows on variegated sandstone – a subsoil that gives the wines a completely different character: delicate, straightforward, with a long finish. Both sites, both characters, both convincing in their individuality. As a VDP member, the winery cultivates its vineyards with respect for the soil and what it yields – without compromises for the sake of quantity.
For those seeking wines that tell a story about a place, Bickel-Stumpf is the right choice. Whether paired with fish from the Main River for dinner or with a mature hard cheese – the estate's wines are not merely background companions, but rather an integral part of the conversation at the table.
