Ziereisen Chardonnay dry "Hard"

A Chardonnay that shows what the Kaiserstuhl region is capable of: dense, complex and with a mineral vein that lingers long in the finish.

The Ziereisen winery operates in the southern Markgräflerland region – on the border with Switzerland, in the far southwest of Baden. Hanspeter Ziereisen is one of the region's most dedicated winemakers: low yields, minimal intervention in the cellar, and long aging periods. The "Hard" is a single-vineyard wine whose name refers to a specific parcel of land – not a made-up name.

On the nose, the wine initially appears closed and reductive. With aeration, it opens up to quince, mirabelle plum, and apple peel, underpinned by floral aromas and a hint of cold smoke. On the palate, it is broad and concentrated – stone fruit-forward, extract sweetness without heaviness, and a velvety texture. The finish is long and characterized by a salty-mineral note.

Decant for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serving temperature: 13–15 °C. Drinking window: now until 2030+.
