Schmitges Riesling semi-dry 1.0L

A Riesling for everyday use that still has substance: off-dry, fresh and with the typical Mosel lightness that makes this grape variety so easy to drink.

The Schmitges winery from Erden on the Middle Moselle has been working with the steep slopes of the Erdener Treppchen and the surrounding Riesling vineyards for generations. The red Devonian slate of these sites imparts a characteristic minerality and lively acidity to the wines—even in an approachable everyday wine like this one, the imprint of origin is noticeable.

In the glass, the Riesling displays aromas of peach, green apple, and a hint of lime zest . The residual sweetness is subtly integrated and balanced by a fresh, crisp acidity—neither heavy nor fleeting, but pleasantly juicy. The finish is short, clean, and invites another sip.

  • Temperature: 8–10 °C
  • Food: Asian curries, Vietnamese summer rolls, light pasta with lemon butter or a simple salmon tartare
  • Occasion: Weekday, spontaneous evening, aperitif with a kick

The liter bottle makes it a reliable companion when several people are sitting at the table.

Weingut Schmitges

The Schmitges family – sixth-generation Riesling makers, unconventional thinkers and newcomers to the industry. Andreas and Kilian focus on deliberately low yields, ungrafted vines, and meticulous vinification. Hand-harvesting, gentle processing, cool, slow, sometimes spontaneous fermentation – the result: individual Rieslings that perfectly reflect the vintage and vineyard site. Their passion lies with the steep slopes: Erdener Prälat and Erdener Treppchen. What does that mean? Up to 100 percent manual labor – not just during the harvest. Immense effort, physical exertion, and maximum passion. And you can taste it in every sip.
