Schmitges Rivaner dry

Schmitges Rivaner dry
An uncomplicated everyday wine from the Moselle that delivers exactly what it promises: fresh fruit, light body, and a clean finish.
The Schmitges winery manages sites on the Middle Moselle, known primarily for steep-slope Riesling. The Rivaner – a classic cross between Riesling and Silvaner – is consistently trimmed for freshness here: short skin contact, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, short yeast storage. No wood, no heaviness.
In the glass, it shows light straw yellow. On the nose, light apple, some quince, and a hint of blossom. On the palate, light, with mild acidity and dry fruit that does not linger long – but is not supposed to either. The finish is short and clean.
- Temperature: 8–10 °C
- Pairs with: Antipasti, Caprese, light pasta dishes, summer salads with goat cheese
- Occasion: Terrace evening, uncomplicated aperitif

The Schmitges family – sixth-generation Riesling makers, unconventional thinkers and newcomers to the industry. Andreas and Kilian focus on deliberately low yields, ungrafted vines, and meticulous vinification. Hand-harvesting, gentle processing, cool, slow, sometimes spontaneous fermentation – the result: individual Rieslings that perfectly reflect the vintage and vineyard site. Their passion lies with the steep slopes: Erdener Prälat and Erdener Treppchen. What does that mean? Up to 100 percent manual labor – not just during the harvest. Immense effort, physical exertion, and maximum passion. And you can taste it in every sip.
