A Mathusalem is not a show bottle — six liters of Champagne from the house of Louis Roederer mean that the Collection 242 matures in a format that gives the wine significantly more time and depth than the standard bottle. Anyone who opens this format turns the moment into an event.

Louis Roederer is one of the few Grandes Maisons that consistently manages its own vineyard holdings. The Collection 242 is the house's multi-vintage signature and combines one-third each from three origins: La Rivière (Vallée de la Marne), La Montagne (Montagne de Reims), and La Côte (Côte des Blancs). The base is formed by the 2017 vintage at 56 percent, supplemented by reserve wines from older vintages — a system that Roederer has built up over many years to ensure continuity and depth.

In the glass, the cuvée shows a golden-yellow color and fine, persistent perlage. The nose opens with white peach, brioche, and a hint of dried apricot. On the palate, the acidity is precise, the body full-bodied, the finish long with a slight chalky minerality.

Best served at 8–10 °C — with langoustines, scallops with butter sauce, or an aged Brie de Meaux. The Mathusalem format is suitable for large tables and special occasions where the Champagne is meant to take center stage.
