Pierpaolo Pecorari Kolaus Sauvignon Blanc Riserva

A Sauvignon Blanc that takes its time: Pierpaolo Pecorari's Kolaus Riserva from Friuli combines the freshness of the grape variety with genuine depth from wooden barrels and bottle aging.

Pecorari's winery is located in the Collio and Isonzo DOC in northeastern Italy — a region known for its white Riserva wines with above-average aging potential. The Kolaus is one of Pecorari's flagship bottles: aged in oak barrels, 11 months of wood aging, followed by 7 months of bottle aging. Not a quick-drinking wine, but a wine with attitude.

Deep golden yellow in the glass. On the nose, initially spicy herbs — dried sage, a hint of bay leaf — followed by ripe aromas of yellow peach and elderflower, which tilt in a balsamic direction due to the wood aging. Medium-bodied on the palate, well-integrated acidity, long mineral finish with a tone of beeswax and honey.
