Pierpaolo Pecorari Refosco IGT

Pierpaolo Pecorari Refosco IGT
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is one of the archetypal grape varieties of Friuli — rich in tannins, full of character, with a tart, spicy vein that distinguishes it from most Italian red wines. Pierpaolo Pecorari has consciously preserved these peculiarities.
The winery is located in the Collio and Isonzo vineyards in northeastern Italy — a region known for its aromatic precision. Pecorari works close to the grape variety: the Refosco is fermented at a controlled temperature (26–28 °C) in stainless steel tanks, then aged for six months in French oak barrels. Little wood tone, lots of fruit.
In the glass, it shows ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, ripe plum, dark blackberry, underneath an earthy, slightly peppery note. On the palate, noticeable tannin with invigorating acidity — typical for the variety, not softened. The finish is dry and spicy.
- Food: Braised pork, game ragù, mature Pecorino, or hearty pasta with mushrooms
- Temperature: 16–18 °C

Pierpaolo Pecorari's small but exquisite winery is nestled in the enchanting region between the sea and the mountains of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Located on the left bank of the Isonzo River, the "Azienda Agricola Pierpaolo Pecorari" estate was officially certified organic in 2007 and encompasses approximately 30 hectares of vineyards. It is precisely for this reason that PP does not market its wines as mass-produced goods, but rather focuses on conveying a love for its wines to the wine lover.
