Nierstein Riesling from First Growths

A Riesling from Nierstein sites that brings together freshness and depth: piquant, salty, and almost vibrating on the palate. Anyone wanting to get to know Rheinhessen beyond lightness will find a good entry point here.

St. Antony is one of the traditional wineries in Nierstein, on the Rheinhessen Red Slope, which is known for its reddish soils and expressive Rieslings. This wine comes from Erste Lagen, i.e., from the winery's better plots.

The nose reveals herbal spice, chamomile, and baked apple, plus a hint of caramel and dried apricot. On the palate, a powerful, salty minerality carries the wine; fine yeasty nuances give it complexity and depth. The finish remains spicy and long.

We recommend it at 8–10 °C with fried trout, chicken fricassee, asparagus with hollandaise, or a spicy goat cheese. It is also a good companion for a quiet evening on its own.

Do you know what happens when a steel company decides to make wine? That's the story of St. Antony . Founded in 1920 in a former limestone quarry, the winery has catapulted itself into the absolute top tier of Rheinhessen wines.

Here, everything revolves around the legendary Roter Hang (Red Slope ). Rieslings grow on the red slate soil, and they pack a punch: mineral, smoky, and full of power [citation:3]. Organic and biodynamic farming has been practiced here since 2006 [citation:2]. The wines from the Pettenthal, Orbel, and Hipping vineyards are among the best in Germany.

Let cellar master Dirk Würtz take you on a journey – from the powerful Blaufränkisch to the elegant Riesling. A truly top German winery waiting to be discovered!
