Nierstein Pinot Noir from First Growth vineyards

Pinot Noir from Nierstein – that sounds unusual, but it's not an experiment: St. Antony shows what Rheinhessen's best vineyards can get out of the Burgundy grape variety.

The St. Antony winery is one of the most prestigious addresses in Nierstein. Its premier vineyards on the Rhine – including classics like Ölberg and Orbel – are situated on Roter Hang, the characteristic red slate soil that gives the Pinot Noir exactly what it needs: mineral depth and a distinctive aromatic profile.

On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of cassis and Morello cherries, underpinned by herbs, forest floor, and a subtle hint of smoke. On the palate, it is clear and vibrant – firm yet delicately juicy, with a well-integrated sweetness that never becomes heavy. The tannins are velvety without being soft, giving the wine structure and backbone. The finish is long and spicy, with lingering notes of dark berries, herbs, and a touch of smoke.

Recommendation: Serve at approximately 16–17 °C. Pairs well with duck breast with cherry sauce, rack of lamb with thyme, or a strong Tomme cheese. Drinking window: now until 2030.
