Riesling Orbel GG

The Orbel lies at the southern end of the Roter Hang – not directly on the Rhine, but tucked away in a side valley. The valley, which opens to the west, acts like a nozzle at night: cool air from the surrounding area flows in and lowers the temperatures significantly. The result is a lively, precise acidity that gives this wine its characteristic drive.

Fine slate gravel instead of bare rock – this distinguishes the Orbel from the neighboring Pettenthal. Weingut St. Antony, a firm address for dry Rheinhessen Rieslings for decades, vinifies this site as a Grosses Gewächs: hand-picked, dry-aged, with the ambition of storability.

Cool and herbal on the nose. On the palate, ripe peach notes and a hint of apple appear, underpinned by herbal aromas and subtle salinity. Firm body, clear structure, piquant finish. Pairs well with grilled sea bass, sweetbreads, or ripe Comté.

St.Antony

VDP Member Estate

Do you know what happens when a steel company decides to make wine? That's the story of St. Antony . Founded in 1920 in a former limestone quarry, the winery has catapulted itself into the absolute top tier of Rheinhessen wines.

Here, everything revolves around the legendary Roter Hang (Red Slope ). Rieslings grow on the red slate soil, and they pack a punch: mineral, smoky, and full of power [citation:3]. Organic and biodynamic farming has been practiced here since 2006 [citation:2]. The wines from the Pettenthal, Orbel, and Hipping vineyards are among the best in Germany.

Let cellar master Dirk Würtz take you on a journey – from the powerful Blaufränkisch to the elegant Riesling. A truly top German winery waiting to be discovered!
