Mulderbosch Old Vine Steen Op Hout - Chenin Blanc

A Chenin Blanc that showcases the potential of old vines in South Africa: dense, mineral, with a texture rarely found in this price range. The name says it all — “Steen Op Hout” means Chenin Blanc on wood, and indeed, the oak aging adds depth to the wine without overpowering it.

Mulderbosch is among the most reliable wineries in Franschhoek, one of the cooler wine regions of the Cape. The old vines—Steen is the traditional South African name for Chenin Blanc—yield concentrated grapes with a natural acidity that gives the wine its backbone.

In the glass, the wine initially reveals a cool, salty-mineral note, accompanied by citrus zest and white stone fruit, with subtle floral aromas in the background. On the palate, the wine expands: ripe stone and pome fruit, a firm, precise acidity, and a dense, lingering texture. The finish is calm and mineral.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C . Pairs well with grilled sea bass, scallops with butter sauce or a creamy goat cheese — but also works on its own as an aperitif.
