Markus Schneider Red Wine Reserve
The Markus Schneider Reserve red wine is not a wine that is produced every year. It is only made when the quality of the grapes truly justifies it — and that's exactly what you can taste in the glass.
This cuvée combines Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah from select vineyards in the Palatinate region. After harvesting, the wine matures for a total of six years , including twelve months in oak barrels. This extended maturation is not a test of patience, but rather the foundation for exceptional depth and complexity.
In the glass, it displays a dense, deep red color. The bouquet unfolds aromas of ripe cherry and blackcurrant , underpinned by notes of tobacco, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is fleshy and spicy, yet surprisingly refined—supported by velvety tannins and vibrant fruit. The finish is remarkably long.
No wonder the 2015 vintage was rated 96 points by James Suckling.
This wine goes well with:
- Braised beef or leg of lamb
- Mature hard cheeses such as Manchego or Comté
- A special evening that deserves it
