Markus Schneider Tohuwabohu

The Markus Schneider Tohuwabohu (Chaos) is named as a tribute to Markus Schneider's son Nicolaus, who is known for his frequent commotion. The wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all grown in the immediate vicinity of the winery. Its color is a deep, almost translucent red. The nose offers aromas of dark berries, plums, mint, and a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, its juiciness and spice are evident. A beautiful tannin structure integrates seamlessly. A truly exceptional wine! 90 points from James Suckling for the 2014 vintage.

Since 1994, Markus Schneider from Ellerstadt in the Palatinate region has built a winery that does many things differently from its colleagues: no vineyard designations, no quality labels, but instead modern branded wines with an international mix of grape varieties and an unmistakable character. On approximately 92 hectares, he produces concentrated, fruit-forward wines characterized by late harvesting, yield reduction, and meticulous cellar techniques. The avoidance of herbicides, insecticides, and artificial fertilizers, as well as the FAIR'N GREEN certification, demonstrates that Schneider considers quality and responsibility together. From a small barn on the family farm, a business with an annual production of around 800,000 bottles has emerged—and one of the most distinctive success stories in the German wine scene.
