Markus Schneider Kaitui Sauvignon Blanc

A Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate that shows what limestone soils can bring out of this grape variety — aromatically dense, juicy and with a long finish.

Kaitui means "tailor" in Māori — a tribute from winemaker Markus Schneider to New Zealand, the country that redefined Sauvignon Blanc worldwide. His vines in the Palatinate grow on higher-altitude, cool limestone soils that offer the variety similar conditions to those in the best Marlborough sites: good drainage, mineral character, and slow ripening.

On the nose, citrus peel, gooseberry, and ripe yellow melon, with a hint of exotic fruit—passion fruit and pineapple. On the palate, juicy and vibrant, with dense aromatics and a long, fresh finish without excessive spice.

Markus Schneider

Since 1994, Markus Schneider from Ellerstadt in the Palatinate region has built a winery that does many things differently from its colleagues: no vineyard designations, no quality labels, but instead modern branded wines with an international mix of grape varieties and an unmistakable character. On approximately 92 hectares, he produces concentrated, fruit-forward wines characterized by late harvesting, yield reduction, and meticulous cellar techniques. The avoidance of herbicides, insecticides, and artificial fertilizers, as well as the FAIR'N GREEN certification, demonstrates that Schneider considers quality and responsibility together. From a small barn on the family farm, a business with an annual production of around 800,000 bottles has emerged—and one of the most distinctive success stories in the German wine scene.
