Zweigelt Reserve Eichkogel

Zweigelt Reserve Eichkogel
A Zweigelt that shows what the grape variety can do when taken seriously: dense cherry fruit, smoky spice and real depth.
The Krug winery operates in the Thermenregion south of Vienna—one of Austria's warmest wine-growing regions, characterized by nutrient-rich soils and long ripening periods. The Eichkogel vineyard is one of the region's best sites: here, the grapes ripen more slowly than in flatter areas, giving the wine more structure and backbone.
In the glass, the Zweigelt Reserve displays a rich ruby red color. The nose is dominated by ripe sour cherry and black cherry , flanked by smoky notes, dark spice, and a hint of sweet wood. On the palate, the wine is powerful without being heavy—juicy extract, well-integrated tannins, and a long finish with a subtle smoky note.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window: now until approx. 2028.
Goes well with beef goulash , grilled duck breast, venison ragout or strong hard cheeses such as mountain cheese or Manchego.
