Zweigelt Reserve Eichkogel

Zweigelt Reserve Eichkogel
A Zweigelt that shows what the grape variety can do when taken seriously: dense cherry fruit, smoky spice, and real depth.
Weingut Krug works in the Thermenregion south of Vienna — one of Austria's warmest wine-growing regions with nutrient-rich soils and long ripening times. The Eichkogel is one of the best sites in the region: the grapes ripen more slowly here than in flatter zones, which gives the wine more structure and backbone.
In the glass, the Zweigelt Reserve shows a rich ruby red. On the nose, ripe sour cherry and black cherry dominate, flanked by smoke notes, dark spice, and a hint of sweet wood. On the palate, the wine appears powerful without becoming heavy — juicy extract, well-integrated tannins, long finish with a slight smoky tone.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
Pairs with beef goulash, grilled duck breast, venison ragout, or strong hard cheese like mountain cheese or Manchego.

Krug Winery – Gumpoldskirchen since 1746. In 1998, a modern winery was built right in the heart of the vineyards. 35 hectares in the best locations of the Thermenregion, sustainable viticulture, rigorous selection. The soils of clay and limestone – already appreciated by the ancient Romans. Here grow Rotgipfler and Zierfandler, powerful, complex white wines, but also red wines with aging potential. And the aim: to offer exceptional drinking pleasure even in their youth. Varietal winners, gold, silver – the Krug Winery is a true goldmine. Austria's Burgundy, as it tastes.
