Steinberger Riesling dry VDP village wine

Steinberger Riesling dry VDP village wine
The Steinberger Riesling from Kloster Eberbach shows what the Hessische Bergstraße and the Rheingau can do when history and modern winemaking meet: a dry Riesling with clear fruit, lively acidity, and real depth.
Kloster Eberbach is one of the oldest and most significant wine estates in Germany – the Cistercian monastery has been managing the Steinberg since the 12th century. The vineyard lies behind a historic wall in the Rheingau and is considered one of the most defining individual sites in German wine history. As a VDP local wine, the Steinberger Riesling stands for the typical style of the site: mineral, precise, capable of aging.
In the glass, it shows white peach and pineapple, complemented by fresh lime and a hint of honeysuckle. The acidity is lively but finely integrated – no scratching, no overweight. The finish is long and salty, with the minerality that the Steinberg soil of clay slate and loess provides. 92 points from James Suckling confirm the class of the vintage.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with cured salmon, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a mature goat cheese.
