Egon Müller Le Gallais Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spätlese
The Wiltinger Braune Kupp belongs to the great Riesling sites of the Saar — blue slate, steep exposure, a microclimate that produces ripeness even in cooler years. The Le Gallais winery, under the leadership of Egon Müller for decades, vinifies this Spätlese with the precision standard that has made the family a reference address for Saar Riesling.
In the glass, a wine of slim, lively body appears: orange zest, ripe mirabelle, and a hint of bourbon vanilla, underscored by a fine minerality that recalls wet slate. The fruit sweetness of the Spätlese category remains integrated — the acidity of the Saar keeps everything in balance; not a gram of residual sugar appears heavy. The finish is salty, long, with a pull of stone fruit that lingers for minutes.
With aging potential for the patient. Serving temperature 8–10 °C. Classic with trout blue or crayfish, but also with Asian dishes with lemongrass — the residual sugar cushions spice elegantly. Those who drink it pure find a wine that needs no accompaniment.
