Domäne Wachau Himmelstiege Grüner Veltliner Federspiel

A Grüner Veltliner that showcases the Wachau in its most accessible form: fresh, precise, with the typical peppery bite of the grape variety and enough substance for everyday use.

Domäne Wachau is one of Austria's most important winegrowers' cooperatives, founded in 1938 and now home to around 200 winegrowing families. The vineyards around Dürnstein are among the steepest terraces in the Wachau region—gneiss and primary rock soils, cool Danube winds, and intense sunshine. The Himmelstiege (Stairway to Heaven) is one of these terraced vineyards, its name literally referring to the steep steps leading down to it.

Federspiel is the lightest of the three Wachau quality levels (max. 12.5% ​​ABV) — named after the falconry decoy bird. The wine reflects this: lean, easy-drinking, and with a clear structure. The nose offers green apple, citrus peel, and the varietal's characteristic white pepper. On the palate, it displays lively acidity, a light body, and a crisp, mineral finish.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Best enjoyed young, within the next two to three years. Pairs well with Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, steamed vegetables, or a simple salmon tartare — a reliable companion for weekday meals as well as Sunday brunch.
