Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Kellerberg Magnum

The Kellerberg is one of the great sites of the Wachau — a steep primary rock ridge above Dürnstein, on which Grüner Veltliner finds its most complex forms of expression. In the magnum bottle, this Smaragd matures particularly slowly and evenly.

The Domäne Wachau cultivates over 440 hectares along the Danube, from the Loibenberg to the Achleiten, and is one of the most well-known addresses in the region. The Smaragd category — named after the lizard of the same name that suns itself on the dry-stone walls of the terraces — stands for fully ripe, dry wines with more than 12.5% vol. and high aging potential.

In the glass, the Kellerberg shows its typical signature: white pepper, ripe quince, and a mineral background that reminds one of slate and wet stone. The acidity is precise and gives the wine tension without being sharp. Long, salty finish; the magnum bottle slows down the development additionally.
