Domaine Lafage Moutou

Domaine Lafage Moutou
The Moutou from Domaine Lafage is a typical Roussillon red wine with substance: dark fruit, Mediterranean spice and ripe tannins that do without heaviness.
Domaine Lafage is located in Perpignan, in the heart of Roussillon, right at the foot of the Pyrenees. Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage cultivate over 100 hectares across the appellation's diverse terroirs. Their Moutou is made from old Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan vines grown on mineral-rich soils with low yields. Vinification takes place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels—an approach that preserves the grapes' fruitiness while simultaneously building depth.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with a violet rim. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and ripe cherry, underpinned by black pepper, lavender, and a hint of licorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with soft, ripe tannins and a fresh acidity that keeps the wine vibrant despite its richness. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly mineral.
Serve at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised lamb, grilled merguez, venison ragù, or aged Manchego cheese. If desired, open the bottle an hour before the meal.
