Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese - green capsule

The Bernkasteler Badstube is one of the most famous sites of the Middle Mosel — a south-facing steep slope of weathered blue slate that gives the Riesling its characteristic tension. Markus Molitor, whose winery is located in the middle of the vineyards of the Wehlener Klosterberg, works here with uncompromising hand-picking with strict berry selection and the lowest yields. Spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels, no stabilizing interventions — the wine is created as close to nature as the Mosel allows.

The green capsule indicates an off-dry style at Molitor: the residual sweetness is present but never heavy. In the glass, yellow peach, ripe apricot, and a hint of white flowers appear, underpinned by a fine slate minerality. On the palate, the wine feels taut, the acidity keeps the sweetness in balance, the finish is salty and long — typical for the Badstube.

Best served at 8–10 °C. Pairs with Asian dishes with light spice, salmon with ginger glaze, or strong blue cheese. Those who drink it pure get a glass of Middle Mosel in its most direct form.
