Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge Premier Cru

The Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge Premier Cru from Domaine Chanson is a classic Côte-de-Beaune Pinot Noir with the weight of a Pommard neighbor and the finesse one would expect from a great Burgundy vineyard.

Chanson, with 4.5 hectares, is one of the most significant owners in Clos des Mouches—one of the most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards in the Beaune appellation. The vines grow on the southeast-facing slope of Mont Saint-Désiré, directly bordering the Premier Crus of Pommard. The soil of the 2.5-hectare red wine parcel consists of a calcareous subsoil topped with a clay and loamy topsoil—a combination that gives the Pinot Noir structure and depth.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep, dark color for a Burgundy. The nose offers aromas of violets and dried rose petals, followed by blackberry, black cherry, and a hint of clove. On the palate, dense, firmly integrated tannins retain elegance—not harshness, but length. The finish is long and spicy.

Drinking window: now until 2032; best with aeration or a year of cellaring. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs well with duck breast with cherries , braised lamb, coq au vin, or mature Époisses.

Domaine Chanson

Domaine Chanson, founded in 1750, is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Burgundy. It is among the few estates that have survived since the 18th century. Since 1999, it has been part of the Bollinger Group, which has undertaken extensive restorations and modernizations to make the winery one of the finest in Burgundy. Nestled amidst picturesque hills, the 45 hectares of vineyards flourish in the most prestigious appellations, including Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Chablis. Here, tradition and modernity blend seamlessly, creating a unique symbiosis that imparts a distinctive character to each wine. The historic Bastion, a 15th-century wine cellar, is the heart of the estate. Within these venerable walls, the wines mature to true perfection under ideal conditions. Each bottle tells a story of dedication and craftsmanship.
