1924 Old Vine Zinfandel Whiskey Barrel Aged
Old vine meets whisky barrel: The 1924 Old Vine Zinfandel Whisky Barrel Aged from Delicato Family Wines combines Californian Zinfandel tradition with an unusual maturation approach.
Delicato Family Wines has cultivated old Zinfandel vines in Central California for generations. The name 1924 refers to the planting year of these vines—vines that are deeply rooted, produce low yields, and yield concentrated fruit. Subsequent aging in ex-whiskey barrels adds an extra layer of aroma to the wine.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers blackberry jam, dried blueberry, and baked plum, underpinned by vanilla, caramel, and a hint of tobacco—a clear imprint of the whisky casks. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with soft, ripe tannins and a subtle sweetness balanced by the wood aromas. The finish is long, warm, and spicy.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with BBQ ribs , a hearty pulled pork burger, mature cheddar, or dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher). It also makes a good choice as a solo red wine in the evening.
Delicato Family Wines – behind this name lies a story that began 100 years ago in California. What an immigrant family started with the dream of good wines and their own land is today one of the most renowned family wineries in the USA.
Rooted in the fertile soils of Central California, Delicato builds on decades of knowledge and a genuine sense of family. The wines reflect this: approachable, honest, and with the typical charm of the California sun – whether juicy reds, fresh whites, or expressive rosés.
For you, this means: wine that simply brings joy – without major hurdles.
