Delicato Family Wines – behind this name lies a story that began 100 years ago in California. What an immigrant family started with the dream of good wines and their own land is today one of the most renowned family wineries in the USA.

Rooted in the fertile soils of Central California, Delicato builds on decades of knowledge and a genuine sense of family. The wines reflect this: approachable, honest, and with the typical charm of the California sun – whether juicy reds, fresh whites, or expressive rosés.

For you, this means: wine that simply brings joy – without major hurdles.

About Delicato Family Wines

From Manteca to the whole world: 100 years of Indelicato heritage

The history of Delicato Family Wines begins in 1924 in Manteca, a small town in central California's San Joaquin Valley. Gaspare Indelicato, an immigrant from Sicily, had reached America through Ellis Island and planted his first vineyard there – on 68 acres with an old hayloft as a cellar, with Carignane, Mission, and Zinfandel vines. The landscape reminded him of his home, where his family had been growing wine for generations. With his three sons, he built a winery that grew over decades without ever changing owners. Today, Gaspare's grandsons Chris Indelicato as CEO and Jay Indelicato as COO lead the company, while the fourth generation is already growing into the business. What began as a family dream in 1924 is today one of the largest family-owned wineries in the United States.

Sustainability as a fundamental conviction, not a marketing promise

Delicato Family Wines manages around 4,000 acres of vineyards at several central locations in California: including the San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey County, one of the largest contiguous single vineyards in the world by area, the Clay Station Vineyard in the sunny hills of Lodi, and the Black Stallion Estate Winery in the Napa Valley on the famous Silverado Trail. This geographical breadth allows for the production of very different grape varieties and styles with genuine precision of origin.

Sustainability runs through all areas of the company: water conservation, soil regeneration, energy use, and responsible packaging are an integral part of company policy. Founder Gaspare already had glass bottles sterilized and refilled in the 1930s – the original winery in Manteca is now a certified organic processing facility. The in-house winemakers are each responsible for specific sustainability programs and their certifications.

From Barrel-Aged Zinfandel to Napa Cabernet: a range with breadth and depth

The Delicato portfolio spans a wide arc: the 1924 line – named after the founding year – relies on unusual aging methods such as bourbon or whisky barrel aging for Cabernet Sauvignon and Old Vine Zinfandel, which gives these wines an additional layer of roasted and vanilla aromas. The Black Stallion Estate Winery in the Napa Valley represents the upscale side of the portfolio: Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from one of the most renowned wine regions in the world, aged with the standards of a classic Napa estate. Delicato's wines are distributed in over 60 markets on five continents – which explains the stylistic breadth: from accessible, fruit-driven everyday wines to structured reserve wines with aging potential.

Delicato Family Wines –
California, the way it tastes

Delicato Family Wines traces its roots back to an immigrant family that gained a foothold in Central California at the beginning of the 20th century – with little luggage, but a clear goal: their own land, their own wine. Today, about 100 years later, it has become one of the most well-known family wineries in the USA, which remains in family hands.

The vineyards are located in the fertile soils of the San Joaquin Valley, where warm days and cool nights give the grapes ripeness and freshness at the same time. This interplay defines the style of the wines: juicy red wines with soft tannins, fresh white wines with clear fruit, and expressive rosés – all without unnecessary complexity, but with genuine character.

What distinguishes Delicato is the ambition to make good wine accessible without any barriers. No vintage guesswork, no label jargon – just wines that sit on the table for dinner and simply work. For everyone who likes Californian wine enjoyment to be uncomplicated and honest.
