The Hess Collection – for the love of art and wine. The reserved Swiss winemaker Donald Hess unites wineries in Napa Valley, South Africa, Australia, and Argentina under his name. Each boasts its own art collection – the largest in California. Particularly captivating are the vineyards on Mount Veeder, 600 meters above Napa Valley. Volcanic soil and cooling Pacific breezes create ideal conditions for producing top-quality wines. The vinification of the Cabernet Sauvignons in open stainless steel tanks with gentle agitation is unique. This results in fewer tannins and more flavor. Hess takes unconventional paths – all for one thing: quality.

What our customers say

Great American Chardonnay, not to be compared with European Chardonnay but if you like it then it is sensational.

Hess Collection Winery —
Art, altitude, and Cabernet from Napa

Hess Collection Winery goes back to the Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who combined his passion for wine and contemporary art in one project. What began as a winery in the Napa Valley now includes sites in South Africa, Australia, and Argentina — each with its own art collection, the largest of which is directly at the winery in California.

The heart of the operation is the vineyards on Mount Veeder, located around 600 meters above the valley floor of the Napa Valley. Volcanic soils, sparse drainage, and the cooling breeze from the Pacific ensure slow ripening and concentrated fruit — conditions that give the Cabernet Sauvignon structure and depth without letting it become heavy.

In the winery, Hess relies on open stainless steel tanks with controlled, gentle movement during fermentation. The result is red wines with softer tannins and clear fruit definition — a style that combines accessibility and aging potential. Those who appreciate Cabernet from Napa but value finesse over power will find a reliable anchor here.
