Today, the reserved Swiss winemaker Donald Hess owns, in addition to the Hess Collection Winery in Napa Valley, Glen Carlou Vineyards in South Africa, Peter Lehmann Wines in Australia, and Bodega Colomé in Argentina. Each of these locations houses a publicly accessible art collection alongside its winery. The largest is the Hess Collection in California: The Hess Collection Winery – For the love of art and wine. HESS Cabernet Sauvignon displays nuanced fruit aromas, spicy cedar and oak notes with a hint of pepper and mint, balanced density, robust structure, and smooth tannins. Each boasts its own art collection – the largest in California. Particularly captivating are the vineyards on Mount Veeder, 600 meters above Napa Valley. Volcanic soil and cooling Pacific breezes create ideal conditions for producing top-quality wines. The vinification of the Cabernet Sauvignons in open stainless steel tanks with gentle agitation is unique. This results in fewer tannins and more flavor. Hess takes unconventional paths – all for one thing: quality.
