Baron Edmond de Rothschild represents one of the most traditional wineries in the Médoc: Château Malmaison in Moulis-en-Médoc. The 24 hectares of vineyards lie on a mosaic of clay and limestone soils, which give the wine a characteristic structure and freshness — conditions that have benefited the classic Bordeaux grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon here for generations.

What distinguishes Château Malmaison from many Médoc estates is its unusually high Merlot content of eighty percent. This noticeably shapes the style: soft tannins, dark fruit, a rounded mouthfeel—more approachable than many Cabernet-dominated neighbors, yet with the depth of a serious Bordeaux. Following a comprehensive restoration between 1974 and 1978, the estate found its current direction: artisanal, precise, and with respect for the appellation.

The wines are suitable for braised lamb, duck breast or a mature Comté — and continue to develop in the cellar for many years.
